"The well-being of our natural environment will determine our future"
– Don Smith

As the former vice-chair of the Muskoka Watershed Advisory Group, Don knows the importance of the watershed and has contributed to recommendations to the province on both flood mitigation and water quality issues.

As a Town and District Councillor, I have:

  • Called for the creation of the Muskoka Housing Task Force and supported construction of more affordable housing

  • Been a proponent for wellness, healthcare, mental health needs and supported construction of a new Bracebridge hospital

  • Made affordability a priority and advocated for keeping a tight control on spending and for keeping taxes down

  • Advocated for the implementation of the Town’s priority of creating more public waterfront and beach access

  • Served on two watershed groups, and have helped set out recommendations to address flooding and the quality of the water in our lakes and rivers

  • Supported programs that have seen our businesses prosper

  • Been a proponent for the recognition of a Climate Emergency by both District and Town Councils, and encouraged decisions that will realize our commitments

  • Been a supporter of Muskoka Airport and its key role in our economic growth

  • Been a phone call or Email away to listen to your concerns and get the answers you want

Going forward, I am committed to:

  • Partnering with all levels of government to increase affordable housing throughout Muskoka

  • Advocating for quality healthcare for all residents and, in particular, supporting the process to see a new acute care hospital built in Bracebridge

  • Protecting both our watershed and our environment with a focus on climate change initiatives

  • Ensuring the people of Bracebridge and Muskoka get good value for every tax dollar collected

  • Creating a positive local business environment that sees our economy grow during difficult times

  • Continuing the efforts to modernize municipal government in Muskoka including downsizing of District Council and the direct election of a District chair

  • Completing the Town plan to increase public waterfront access by developing waterfront land, already owned by the Town, for public use by local residents and tourists

  • Making myself available by phone or Email to answer your questions and be your voice at the Council table

You can vote for three District councillors.
I’d be honoured if you’d consider me to be one of your choices.
